A small Management Group oversees the smooth running of the Helensburgh RNLI Lifeboat Station. The Management Group meet on a regular basis, receive reports from group members responsible for various aspects of the organisation of the station, and generally ensure that the station is being run efficiently and effectively.
The key figure on the operational side of the Lifeboat Station is the Lifeboat Operations Manager (LOM). The LOM is responsible for ensuring that the Lifeboat is maintained in first class order, is always ready to put to sea and that the Lifeboat crew are up to scratch.
He also authorises the launch of the Lifeboat on service, monitors the progress of the rescue operation, and is on hand to advise the Lifeboat crew and the Coastguard if required. The LOM is assisted in this role by Deputy Launching Authorities.
The crew is led by the Senior Helmsman, Robin Lane. In addition there are designated helms who are qualified to command the Lifeboat at sea. The Lifeboat crew also has a Station Trainer and a Station Mechanic, responsible for the maintenance of the Lifeboat.
